Property Brokers’ Tim Mordaunt and Paul Roache have been awarded a Civic Honour Award, Palmerston North’s highest recognition for voluntary service, at a ceremony held on the 24 th of November at the Regent Theatre and presented by Mayor Grant Smith.

Since the awards began in 1988, only 169 individuals have received this prestigious honour. Tim and Paul now join this distinguished group, recognised for decades of contribution across community wellbeing, sport, arts, youth development, education and local organisations.

In his speech, Paul reflected on the significance of the award with heartfelt humility, saying, “It’s really humbling to receive this. You never do this work expecting recognition - you simply show up for your community. So to be acknowledged in this way means a great deal.”

He also spoke proudly of the city they have called home for decades. “We live in the best city in the country, and we live in one of the best communities.”

Paul highlighted the company’s deep support for young people through the Property Brokers Scholarship Programme, “We know we’re supporting amazing talent on the national an international stage. It’s a real honour, and we feel it’s our privilege.”

During the ceremony, Tim shared the philosophy that has guided the business and his personal approach to leadership for nearly four decades. “Over the years, what you learn is the more you give, the more you get. We’re proud to be a company of givers.”

He emphasised the importance of showing up and contributing, “If you’ve got a Christmas parade, you walk in the Christmas parade. If you’ve got Relay for Life, you walk around Relay for Life.”

Paul was clear that the award reflects the dedication of the entire Property Brokers team, “I don’t feel like I’m receiving this tonight just for me - it’s really our team, they live the values on their business card every day.”

Tim echoed this sentiment, acknowledging the leadership that has continued the company’s community commitment since his retirement, “It’s great for me to see it continue, and hopefully it will for many years.”
