As a boy from a small regional community deeply connected to rural Australia, Travis Wentriro felt extremely lucky to grow up amidst the expansive landscapes of outback South Australia, where he learned early on the values of resilience, independence, and a strong work ethic. His formative years were shaped by the wide-open spaces and tight-knit communities of rural life, instilling in him a deep appreciation for the simple yet profound connections that bind people together.
Travis Wentriro, a Senior Network Performance Manager with the Raine & Horne Group gained invaluable insights into what it takes to run a successful business in regional areas. Travis states, “growing up in a family that operated a small, family-run exploration business, I learned firsthand about navigating geographical remoteness, severe weather conditions that effect the financial stability of people, and the challenges posed by declining populations and low employment in regional towns”.
These experiences have shaped his understanding of the resilience and adaptability required to thrive in rural Australia. In his current role supporting over 55 regional offices across NSW & ACT, Travis works tirelessly to protect and empower franchise business owners amidst industry disruptions and market shifts. Travis believes, ‘his background instilled a strong belief that people are the greatest asset in any organisation, and he is committed to fostering strong relationships and sustainable growth in these vital communities”.
At a young age, Travis ventured away from the familiarity of home to attend boarding school, a journey that demanded self-reliance and maturity. This experience set the stage for a life dedicated to forging his own path—one less travelled. Eschewing the conventional route of attending university, he chose instead to embrace practical experience and adventure.
Travis told RET, his career after school began on cattle stations not too far from the edge of the Simpson Desert, where he spent many hours chasing cattle and sleeping out in stock camps often for weeks at end before returning to the main homestead. He learned the importance of independence and adaptability in challenging environments. From there, he transitioned into the mining industry, a sector that further developed his resilience and problem-solving skills. Later, Travis moved into technical services recruitment, gaining insights into the importance of relationship-building and understanding people’s unique needs.
In 2014, Travis embarked on a new chapter by entering the real estate industry. Since then, he has dedicated himself to supporting regional and rural franchisee offices across New South Wales and ACT. Traveling over 50,000 kilometres annually, equivalent to circumnavigating Australia by road approx. 3 ½ times, Travis has built strong, genuine relationships with clients and colleagues alike. “I firmly believe that relationships equal retention and retention represents growth—a principle that guides my approach to business and life”.
While technology, including AI, is transforming the real estate landscape, I remain a staunch advocate for the power of authentic, face-to-face interactions. I believe that “belly to belly” business—meeting people in person, understanding their stories, and building trust—will always surpass the capabilities of digital platforms or products. Genuine relationships, forged through real conversations and shared experiences, are the foundation of long-term success and community strength.
I never imagined that I would end up living and working in Australia's largest city, especially within the corporate world. Growing up in a small town, my beginnings were modest, and my early employment experiences were local and humble. I always thought my future would be rooted in the familiar surroundings of my hometown, far from the bustling metropolis of Sydney. However, through determination and a desire to pursue new opportunities, I gradually transitioned from my modest beginnings to the vibrant corporate environment of one of the world's most dynamic cities.
Travis told RET, “I am really proud of my journey and how it has been shaped by a commitment to authenticity, resilience, and meaningful connections. This unexpected journey has been both challenging and rewarding, proving that sometimes, the biggest achievements come from unlikely starting points. As the industry evolves, Travis is confident that these core principles will continue to guide him—and serve as a reminder that, at the heart of every thriving business, are real people and real relationships.
